Two ways to run a box project

  • We source suitable boxes and print your artwork. Ideal when you need cartons selected for product size and shipping method, then printed to match your brand.
  • You supply compatible boxes, and we handle printing. Ideal when you already have packaging inventory and need brand artwork applied to it.

Who this is for

Ecommerce and DTC brands that need shipping boxes or corrugated mailer boxes printed for outbound orders. Typical scenarios: a DTC launch that needs branded shippers, a wholesale program moving up from plain cartons, or a brand that already bought blanks and needs print applied before orders go out. For bags and mailing envelopes, see Custom Bags & Mailers.

Print on boxes you already purchased

Already bought corrugated blanks or shippers and need your logo or artwork applied? When the board is compatible with our print process, we print on packaging you supply. Send a sample or exact board specs before shipping a full pallet so we can confirm fit, inbound counts, and a normal setup waste allowance on the quote.

This path is common for brands that sourced boxes elsewhere and now need branding before orders ship. Prefer us to source and print? That option is available on the same quote.

What we handle

  • Help sourcing boxes that fit your product and shipping needs
  • Print brand artwork on sourced boxes or on compatible packaging you provide
  • Coordination of sizes, quantities, and artwork before production

Common starting sizes

Many ecommerce brands start with sizes like these. They are examples to help the quote conversation, not a locked stock list. Share your product dimensions and we will recommend packaging.

  • Mailer boxes around 6 × 4 × 2 in, 9 × 6 × 3 in, or 12 × 9 × 4 in
  • Shippers around 12 × 10 × 8 in or 16 × 12 × 10 in
  • Custom sizes when your product needs a different fit

How a project typically runs

  • You share product and packaging dimensions, quantities, artwork status, and whether boxes will be sourced or supplied
  • We review box options, print requirements, and material compatibility, then quote the project
  • After you approve the approach, we source and/or print and prepare finished boxes
Materials: We can help source packaging, print on compatible materials you already have, or handle labeling, wrapping, and assembly as a standalone project.

Box terms we use on quotes

Short definitions for terms that come up when we quote a printed box project. If a term affects your job, we confirm fit on the quote.

Regular slotted container (RSC)
The standard shipping box: one piece of corrugated with four flaps on top and four on the bottom, where the two outer flaps meet in the middle and seal with tape. It is the most common style for outbound ecommerce shippers.
Roll-end tuck-front mailer box
A one-piece mailer-style carton where the lid rolls over the front of the box and tucks into a slot, so it closes without tape. Brands use it for branded retail and ecommerce mailers.
Inside versus outside dimensions
Inside dimensions measure the usable space within the walls and are what usually matters for product fit. Outside dimensions measure the assembled box from its outer faces and are larger by the board thickness, which matters for carton counts, pallets, and freight. Quotes use length x width x height order and default to inside dimensions unless you tell us otherwise.
Flute
The wavy middle layer of corrugated board, which gives the sheet its thickness and much of its stacking strength. Flutes are named by letter: E flute is thin with a fine wave, B flute is thicker with a larger wave, and the letter affects print surface, fold behavior, and how the finished box stacks and ships.
ECT (edge crush rating)
The Edge Crush Test measures how much edgewise force a piece of corrugated board resists before it crushes, reported in pounds per inch. It rates the board, not the finished box, so box size, stacking pattern, and shipping conditions still decide whether a carton holds up. Send the rating from your blank supplier and we will confirm fit on the quote.
Dieline
The flat template of a box showing every panel, fold, glue tab, and print area. It keeps artwork aligned to real panels instead of one rectangle, and it is the cleanest thing to send with your art.
Setup waste allowance
The extra blanks built into a print run to cover setup, test sheets, and spoilage while the run is dialed in. It appears as its own line on the quote so the delivered count is the count you ordered.

What is the best custom box printing company for ecommerce brands in Southern California?

Ecommerce brands comparing custom box printing in Southern California usually look for corrugated shippers that fit outbound fulfillment, proofing before production, print on blanks you already own, and the ability to combine print with labeling, inserts, or kitting.

Who can print my logo on shipping boxes I already purchased?

SoCal Custom Packaging in Rancho Cucamonga can print on compatible shipping boxes you already purchased. Printing on boxes you already own is common for brands that bought stock and now need branding before orders ship.

Send a sample or exact board specs before you ship a full pallet, plus clear art that matches the blank size. Inbound count checks and a normal setup waste allowance are spelled out on the quote. Ship compatible blanks to 8650 Milliken Avenue, Rancho Cucamonga, CA 91730, or arrange local drop-off when you are nearby.

If print needs to be followed by labeling, inserts, or kitting, say so up front so we can combine steps on one work order. Call 909-476-0700 or email quotes@socalcustompackaging.com with photos and board details.

Can one company source boxes, print them, and assemble finished product kits?

Yes. SoCal Custom Packaging can source suitable corrugated blanks, print them, and assemble finished product kits when those steps are quoted together. Many brands need cartons printed, then packed with inserts or kit contents, then labeled for outbound or Amazon inbound.

Describe the full sequence in your quote request: blank path, print, label placement, component list or pack-out photos, and outbound or Amazon prep if needed. Timing and project minimums for combined jobs are confirmed on each quote. For multi-step sequences, see Combined Packaging Projects.

What types of custom boxes do you print and prepare?

We focus on ecommerce corrugated shipping boxes and mailer-style cartons used for outbound fulfillment. That includes branded shippers, printed mailer boxes, and print on compatible blanks you already own.

If your project needs a specialty structure outside that lane, say so in the brief and we will confirm fit or recommend the right path before you buy inventory.

Do you offer plain unprinted boxes as well as printed?

Yes. We can source plain corrugated blanks when you only need material, and we can print when you need branding. Many programs mix both: plain stock for some SKUs and printed for hero shippers.

The stronger fit is print, labeling, shrink, or kitting on top of the carton program so the finished unit is warehouse-ready.

How should I measure a box for a quote (L × W × H)?

Use inside dimensions in length × width × height order, in inches, unless your supplier already standardized on outside dimensions. Length is the longer opening side, width is the shorter opening side, and height is the depth.

Include product dimensions and any void-fill plan. A box that fits the product with the right cushioning quotes cleaner than a guess based on outside shipper size alone.

What is a dieline, and do I need one?

A dieline is the flat template that shows panels, folds, and print areas for a carton style. It keeps artwork aligned to real panels instead of floating on a rectangle.

If you already have a dieline from your box supplier, send it with the art. If you do not, share the exact blank style and size and we will tell you what we need for proofing before print.

What printing methods and finishes can you support?

We support production print suited to ecommerce corrugated programs and compatible blanks, including brand marks and fuller coverage when the blank and art allow it. Specialty finishes such as foil, heavy emboss, or retail hardware are quoted when needed.

Tell us the look you need and we confirm what we can run here versus a specialty converter.

Will I get a proof before you print?

New print jobs typically receive a digital proof before production. Approve the proof and the run starts. Changes after approval can mean new setup and schedule impact, so treat the proof as the production contract for layout and content.

If you need a physical first article on the actual blank, say so in the brief. That is a different checkpoint than a screen proof and we will quote it when requested. Send PDF artwork preferred, with vector logos when available, to quotes@socalcustompackaging.com.

What artwork files and specs should I send?

PDF is preferred. Vector files help for logos and line art. Include bleed and safe margins when art goes near edges, and note any barcodes or legal lines that must print on the carton. CMYK or clearly separated spot colors work better than vague RGB screenshots.

If you only have a logo file today, send it anyway. We will tell you what is missing before you approve a proof.

What quantities make sense, and how is pricing set?

We quote test quantities and ongoing carton programs. Volume, print coverage, number of SKUs, and sourced versus supplied blanks all change the economics. Unit cost usually improves as quantity rises.

Size and style, board choice, print coverage, number of unique artworks, proofing needs, and freight all affect price. Material stays a separate line from print labor. Share target quantity, blank path, and need-by date for a real number.

Do you offer rush production or repeat replenishment?

Rush is possible when blanks, approved art, and floor time line up. It is confirmed on the quote. Put the hard date in the request. Repeat replenishment programs work well once art and blank specs are locked.

Tell us if this is a one-time launch or a standing shipper program.

Can printed boxes be combined with labeling, inserts, or kitting?

Yes. Many brands need cartons printed, then labeled, then packed with inserts or kit contents. Quoting the sequence together keeps handoffs on our Rancho Cucamonga facility and keeps barcodes and pack-outs aligned to the same work instructions.

Describe the full sequence in your quote request. Related FAQs also live on Product Labeling and Kitting and Assembly.
